LiveNation buys U2

Ladies and gentlemen, LiveNation has just purchased the rights to yet another big band and the concert world as we know it is getting smaller and smaller. They are about to purchase the rights to arguably the biggest band in Music today: U2

Announced publicly on the 31st of March, U2 is next on LiveNations hit list of big bands. There are reports of a 12 year contract coming into place with LiveNation to control U2's touring, merchandise, and website.

This is a big move for LiveNation, however not the biggest announcement they have made in the last few months. LiveNation is moving towards complete dominance of the music industry, as they are signing long terms agreements with some of the biggest artists in music today.

Here are some quick facts for you to understand just how dominant this company is: - promotion of roughly 30,000 events per year - owning roughly 120 venues (including amphitheatres, arenas and festivals) - 120 million dollar recording contract with Madonna - ownership of Monster Jam (and many of the trucks including GraveDigger) - ownership of House of Blues - plans to move away completely from Ticketmaster and complete ticket transaction on their own

It will be very interesting to see how all this affects us, the consumers. Monopolies in general are bad for the public. Will it be any different with LiveNation?
